What was the Langham Hotel doing in Pasadena? An incredible retreat located just outside of Downtown, adjacent to Cal Tech… an oasis in itself. Driving down the beautiful tree lined streets, one wouldn’t expect such a gorgeous estate-like property to exist in such close proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city.

Resort experience meets suburbia.

From the entrance to the walkways, to the courtyards and straight out to the pool area, the ambiance of The Langham Pasadena emitted a relaxing vibe that encompassed the Californian lifestyle… only 15 minutes from downtown LA and away from the mix of the entertainment industry. It felt like I was arriving on vacation as I stepped out of my car and into the lobby.

The Terrace was located down winding hallways in the back of the property overlooking the serene pool area. A gorgeous, peacefully secluded spot, this would be a perfect location to enjoy a club sandwich during any of the 300+ sunny days that Los Angeles gets to enjoy.

With light progressive jazz playing in the background, I ordered the club sandwich and an Arnold Palmer from the courteous waiter, enjoying the setting that surrounded me.

What a heaping presentation! I’m glad I arrived hungry – stacked high and staring back at me, the Langham’s club sandwich seemingly suggested that there was no way I could handle all of this club… taunting me, I removed the long toothpicks like spears from a hunted animal, ready to enjoy this massive meal.

I almost injured my jaw trying to fit in the first bite… there’s no way the common person could eat this normally, it’s just too big… although that is more of an observation than a complaint.

The smoky flavor from the grilled chicken and red pepper immediately enveloped my taste buds. Deliciously moist and savory, the protein and produce vibed together like they were meant to be soul mates. A perfect combo. The bacon emitted a well-balanced meatiness that combined nicely with the moistness of the chicken and pepper, with firm and soft textures permeating through each smokey bite.

More for show than flavor, the lettuce held the ashwan aioli against the sourdough bread with care, ensuring not too much sauce was used, the minimal amount to add a hint of flavor and creaminess. The layer of cheese was probably unnecessary, but it did add a nice creamy soft texture, making up for tomato’s lack of juiciness.

Apart from the size and thus difficulty in consuming, this club was amazing. A fantastic addition, the grilled red pepper was the star of this club sandwich, a main ingredient I will never forget.

As for sides… I absolutely loved the roasted red pepper tapenade that came with the bread. Very delicious. I could see this being used on the club sandwich, but its essence may overpower the rest of the club; not a subtle flavor! The French fries were slightly undercooked, but with everything else laid before me it was difficult to complain about them.

What a fantastic escape from the city, I enjoyed this fairly divine moment sitting in The Terrace overlooking the pool enjoying The Langham Pasadena’s Chicken Club Sandwich.

I finished my meal and sipped the last of my perfectly colored yellow and tan Arnold Palmer, wishing I didn’t have to leave for my next meeting, but knowing I’d be back…
