LAX to BOS to HNL in the span of 3 days.

To be honest, the longest nonstop domestic flight in the world, from Boston to Honolulu, wasn’t that bad. Yet still, the travel, coupled with the funeral I attended in Boston, left me a bit drained upon my arrival to the Prince Waikiki.

I felt so lucky to be spending almost the entire day in my hotel room. That might sound odd, but my Monday was full of calls and emails, and to do all of my work with the view in front of me, was just incredible. The scenic view one gets from the Prince is outstanding. I couldn’t have asked for more.

I almost didn’t want to leave my room to explore the area… and fortunately, I didn’t have to – room service was one phone call away.

The $14 “Prince Club House” club sandwich sounded like value that couldn’t be beat, complete with Maui style potato chips. I plowed through emails while I awaited my meal to arrive, taking in the view every few minutes.

Overall the Prince Club House was a bit of a letdown, lacking the unique, Hawaiian ingredients I had previously experienced at The Royal Hawaiian many years ago, and not giving great care to fresh ingredients.

In fact, most of the ingredients felt like they had just been hanging around the kitchen for some time, the over-ripe avocado being the biggest culprit. The bacon must have come from the breakfast buffet, refrigerated for later use. And the turkey, albeit tasty, must have been pulled from a massive vacuum packed sandwich meat pack.

The ingredients unfortunate didn’t go to the edge of the sandwich, which made the holdability easier, but it also meant you were left with a lot of leftover crust. My plate was covered with bread and no other ingredients bread and potato chips and no other ingredients when I declare myself done.

Nothing really exciting, nothing really unique, and nothing full of flavor… at least I had an incredible view. I couldn’t help but think, maybe they could make it $18, and add a heartier amount of fresher ingredients…
