Is there such a thing as too much seafood?

Monday night was oysters. Tuesday night was lobster. Wednesday night was oysters. Thursday night was lobster. It was Friday, and it pained me to think I wanted something besides oysters and lobster.

Boston is full of steakhouses (that all serve lobster and oysters, no joke) and Abe & Louie’s is a classic staple of the Boston steakhouse scene. I had been many times, and have had their lobster club sandwich in the past, but on this occasion I was delighted to find a filet mignon club sandwich on the menu.

Daniel and I ordered the same meal, and we caught up on life and work while waiting for our clubs to arrive. I enjoyed learning about his new business venture/pivot, and he enjoyed learning about mine.

Not many sandwiches come in into thirds – in fact, it’s hard to even find a word to describe this, so Daniel aptly called it tri-sliced and I obliged.

A solid helping of steak to substantiate the $24 pricetag, Abe & Louie’s filet mignon club sandwich provided the hearty break from lobster and oysters that my body so craved. Sandwiched between a soft yet firm brioche, each bite was moist and tender. The bacon honestly seemed unnecessary, although it did add a salty bite that I enjoyed. Both steak sauce and mayonnaise was too much – instead of the mayo, it would have been nice to see the thick layer of arugula dressed with something. Overall though, I definitely enjoyed the meal.

To top it off, the sweet potato fries were out of this world delicious. How they got them so crispy on the outside yet so tender on the inside I will never know, but I hope it’s a recipe they continue to repeat for years to come.

Daniel was kind enough to drive me to the airport, and I departed Boston for Los Angeles with a full stomach.
