The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, Japan
45 Floors Up

Arrive Saturday afternoon depart Monday afternoon. 48hrs in Tokyo how could I go wrong? I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a weekend, considering my arrival to LAX was 9:30am Monday, which enabled me to get to the office by noon.
There were only a few items on my “must to do” list, and one of those included buying as much dashi, soy sauce, and udon noodles at Kayanoya, one of my favorite food stores in Japan (located next to the most expensive fruit store one might image – $5 for 1 strawberry, is where prices begin).
Kayanoya is located within Tokyo Midtown, an impressive shopping center adjacent to Roppongi. My brother knows this area well, and had been raving for year about the club sandwich at the only hotel connected to the property, the hotel he stays at each time he visits Tokyo on business; The Ritz Carlton.
My brother’s earnest disappointment was clear each time I told him I had yet to try the Ritz’s club sandwich. So on this adventure, Rachel and I made it a top priority.
45 floors up, we were blown away with the Ritz Carlton’s lobby lounge. Impeccable service and hospitality coupled with immaculate design exuded from every corner of the lobby space, with patrons from near and far enjoying afternoon tea at almost every table. This property was gorgeous, and we sat down by a window to take in the view and order a club sandwich.
An experience, that’s what ordering the club sandwich at Ritz Carlton Tokyo is. More than just a meal, the service, the snacks, the beverages, the scene, all add up to a moment in time one rarely forgets.
And this included a first for me when I comes to club sandwiches: The white bread had an egg literally baked into the top slice. Well crafted, masterfully executed, this over easy protein produced a creaminess that enhanced each bite… until of course, the yolk ran out and the crusts took its place.
Everything was excellent about this club sandwich, except that the ingredients were all pushed towards the center of the meal. Delicious avocado, lovely ripe tomato, moist chicken, thick cut bacon… all in the center of the meal and vacant from each bite as I inched towards the last quarter of this meal. The ratio held this club back from being in the top 10 sadly.
A lovely small salad and crispy thin French fries provided us a well balanced side option, and on top of this, the snacks that accompanied our drinks topped off the experience.
We finished the meal, took in the moment, and left for Roppongi Hills. Smiles galore, we enjoyed ourselves, and I reveled in the notion of sharing the experience with my brother.
