As rain splashed down upon me, I looked into café window after café window to find anything I could quickly consume. In a city where Pret a Manger closes at 5pm, it’s challenging to find what I was looking for at 530pm… but I was hungry, and in need of something satisfying prior to the Simpleview welcome reception at 6pm.

Tesco Express was my only true option outside of pizza or kebab.

I hopped in and was immediately greeted by nostalgia from the amount of times I frequented Tesco while at university in Newcastle. The great selection of easy takeaway items brought back fond memories of quick, affordable bites on budgets from my years past.

Yes, the chicken club sandwich – let’s see if it tastes as wonderful as I remember from my university says.

I spent the $4 and hurried through the whipping rain back to my hotel room, to finish up some work while putting food into my stomach, quite literally!

Oh the sweet taste of blandness sandwiched together by mush bread and savory salt… if rubbery ingredients had a flavor, Tesco’s Chicken Club Sandwich would be the epitome. Dry flavorless chicken, bacon that had literally no bacon taste, bread that mushed immediately upon biting down… $4 gets you a terrible, truly disgusting club sandwich, not nearly as great as I recall. The ingredients for Tesco’s chicken club sandwich couldn’t have been more poorly decided upon, equating to a disastrous club, and one that should be banned from serving.

As I pushed the sandwich into the trash, I noticed 50% of it was just bread and lettuce, and the ratio was such a joke that no wonder this was only $4; when you put in only half the amount of ingredients a sandwich calls for while making them nearly inedible, you can afford to make such a cheap product.

Oh I’m sure there will be better food at the reception tonight…
