Miss Florence Diner, Florence, MA USA
Driving to Look Park
Category: Ind. Est., Rest.Ordered from Miss Florence Diner in the little town of Florence, Massachusetts, right by Northampton.
We had driven by Miss Florence Diner countless times on our way to and from Look Park, one of the best parks I had come across, an endless expanse of experiences frequented by many locals but always sparse in population.
Nearly every time, my in-laws would mention the club sandwich at Florence. In fact, I recall them mentioning it even when we weren’t driving by. One time in my life we were going to have to stop at this diner and have their club sandwich. And guess what: today was that day.
We walked around back to the ample outdoor dining, passing the Dave Portnoy Barstool Sports sign that was proudly stationed on the sidewalk to beckon passerby’s in through Miss Florence’s doors, and found a seat in the sun. We took turns watching Trevor wreak havoc, doing our best to ensure he avoided jumping into every puddle he saw, while we waited patiently for our food to arrive… a pleasant, and frustrating 30 minutes of babysitting a toddler while all of us were hungry.
One thing you quickly recognized about Miss Florence Diner: you didn’t come here for the service. And perhaps that added to the flare of this old school stomping ground.
Finally, our meals came out – and even though one of them was incorrect and had to be sent back to the kitchen, at least four of the five of us got to dig into our diner-centric lunches.
Super thick cut turkey, really enjoyed that. The roasted flavors produced a wide smile immediately for me… and the texture of the turkey next to the paper thin sliced ham, coupled with the super meaty, crispy bacon, gave each bite a diverse yet familiar sense of enjoyment.
The rest of this club sandwich – totally average, but who cared at this point; I was on a protein binge and the only thing I needed was more French fries to top it off.
We shared laughs about the experience and labeled the event a success, although for reasons not necessary to post here, I doubt we’ll be back anytime soon. Still, now we would have something else to talk about on our trips to and from Look Park.
