The day started off with a snowstorm and my initial flight being so delayed that I was sure to miss miss my connection in New York, and arrive after midnight to San Francisco. Not my style. Especially with an 8am meeting the next day, coupled with the 3 hour time difference.

So I booked a new flight on JetBlue arrive right when the Super Bowl was kicking off.

On time and excited for this major business trip, I perused the myriad of dining selections, most of them open, within terminal C.

I decided to stop by the Priority Pass lounge to see what options lay inside. Abysmal, honestly. They didn’t even have a coffee/espresso machine, which seemed de rigueur for airport lounges these days… so I ventured out to find coffee.

My first stop was Starbucks, which had about 200 people in line. I people-watched  and noticed an individual leave the line and pass bye a few minutes later with Starbucks in their hand. How did that happen?! I decided follow her wake and found a completely empty Starbucks 2 minutes away, where I placed my order and enjoyed the iced americano I so desperately wanted. Yum, espresso.

I have to admit, I really did miss the American Airlines lounge, but there’s no way I was going to arrive after midnight and then I have to be at meetings at 8 AM the next day.

Looking for food options, I came upon Market Bagels, a stall within Boston Public Market. At $8.50 for a club sandwich on a bagel, at an airport, next to a $31 lobster roll, I felt this was value I couldn’t say no to. I chose an everything bagel, she offered to scoop out the bread, and I look forward to taking this meal all the airplane. [Side note: I was at the actual Boston Public Market the day prior – they have quite the popular bagel establishment there, perhaps the same bagels, doubtful the same club sandwich].

I watched her meticulously scoop out the bagel, and I appreciated her attention to detail with each claw she made at the bread. The person working next to her had never seen such a request before, and also looked on with curious eyes.

On the airplane… and after an hour of waiting while they deiced the plane and went back to the gate to refuel, I decided it was time to eat my club.

The ratio was so terrible on this bagel club sandwich that each bite literally had different ingredients in it. Had they ever made a sandwich before? All of the ingredients were spread out in a way that simply did not sandwich them together. It made for a weird journey through this club sandwich, and I was perplexed by how they could even offer it in the first place.

The bagel itself? Fantastic. The rest of the ingredients? Flavorless and boring. Not even the avocado spread engaged my tastebuds. Meanwhile I could feel the salt seep into my tongue, begging me for sips of water.

This was barely worth the $8.50 and I partially regretted not stopping by legal seafoods for takeout. Or perhaps I should have just gotten cream cheese to go along with the everything bagel and passed on the club. Sadly, it didn’t matter. I had a terrible meal on my hands, a 2.5 hour delay eating up my day, and a 6 hour flight to look forward to… at least I could catch some of the Superbowl on my flight? Is that a positive?

The definite good news: I now know where the secret Starbucks is at Terminal C, and will be taking advantage of that the next time I fly JetBlue from Boston!
