Greenberg’s Deli branded itself as a “must-visit establishment for anyone craving authentic New York-style deli cuisine.” How could I say no to that statement?

A quick 15 minute walk from our hotel, I knew this would be the perfect pitstop in between my plane landing and my wife finishing her day at work. I was in Las Vegas because she was in Las Vegas: her business trip coincided with our anniversary, and I decided to join her for a day like the romantic, loving husband I am.

80 degrees and blue skies, the walk from my hotel to the New York New York was pleasant and gorgeous, easy to navigate as my hunger pushed me through the crowds and energy that always enveloped the strip. Sure enough, it was easy to spot New York New York, and Greenberg’s Deli was 100 feet from the entrance.

Authentic New York, yes, Greenberg’s Deli had it all: the spices and sauces on shelves overlooking the restaurant, the boisterous yet embracing employees taking orders with vigor and attitude, the photos of what my meal will look like – was I truly in Las Vegas?? Ok, I’m being just a bit facetious; clearly this wasn’t New York, but still, I loved the vibe and I was excited for my “classic club sandwich.”

I put my order in and selected ciabatta – it was the hardest decision of the day, but I felt like ciabatta would hold an overly-stuffed club sandwich together for a better experience. The marble rye was tempting, but today, it would be ciabatta for me. I just hoped I chose wisely.

One heaping, meaty, club sandwich was placed in front of me on the counter, and I instantly began to salivate. With great eagerness, I found a table in what appeared to be a bustling street in downtown Brooklyn, and dove right in.

The turkey was soooo thinly sliced. Sure, they used their own slicer counter-side, but wow, how did they slice is so thin? Their approach of “drizzling” each layer ensured the thin-slicing wouldn’t detract from its volume. Delicious and delightful. And their approach to bacon – they purposefully make the strips curly to add volume and texture to sandwich. I like that!

The lightly toasted and mayo’d ciabatta was so dam good it, it boggled my mind why I don’t see more club sandwiches use this carbohydrate. Although while I did choose this tasty gluten-full ingredient, I have to admit the holdability was a bit challenging, simply because the sandwich packed so much protein into it.

To top this meal off, the pickle was everything you hoped for, and expected, straight out of the Big Apple, with an incredible crunch and flavor that had me truly thinking I took the wrong flight this morning.

I loved Greenberg’s Deli. At $15, the value of this sandwich couldn’t be beat on the Las Vegas strip, and I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area and craving a deli delight. I will be back!
